Real Estate in Bay County 2010

Posted by: Charlie Commander

Blog Entry #1:  2010 has been a challenging year for Real Estate in Bay County to say the least.  Poor economic conditions in addition to the BP Oil Spill helped to drag the market further down in the wake of the banking crisis.  Single family sales for October, the last reported month were down to 174 vs. 193 unit sales for the same time period last year.  The average price for a single family home was also down to $134,900 vs. $150,000 for the same time period in 2009.  Year to date sales show so far in 2010 1687 units have sold with an average sales price of $140,500 vs. the same time period for 2009 which yielded 2052 sales with an average sales price of $154,900.  Many factors can be attributed to the continual slide of home sales but the two factors that must change for this trend to be reversed are job procpects and fewer foreclosures coming to the market.  Blog entry #2 will highlight some ways these two very important factors can be influenced to help the houseing market begin to recover.
